The Magical Properties of Coffee

Updated: Dec 2, 2024

Ever wondered why your daily cup of coffee feels like pure magic? It's because coffee embodies all four elements: Earth, where the beans originate; Fire, which roasts those beans to perfection; Water, which transforms the grounds into liquid gold; and Air, represented by the aromatic steam rising from your cup.

But the magic doesn't stop there. Coffee's metaphysical properties are just as enchanting. It's grounding—both literally and figuratively—stabilizing you in the morning and revitalizing you after a long day. With its cleansing and protective vibes, coffee can banish nightmares and clear away energy blockages, setting you on the path to your goals.

Need a boost? Coffee's got your back. It ramps up your stamina, sharpens your focus, and fuels your motivation, making anything achievable. Plus, it grants you the clarity to view situations with fresh eyes.

And there's more: Drinking coffee can deepen connections with others, spark love, ignite creativity, and enhance your intuition. It even boosts your luck, lust, and happiness.

So, don't hesitate—always go for that second cup. Your next sip might just be a small dose of everyday magic.

Health Warnings

Because coffee contains caffeine, please refrain from consuming it if you have a caffeine sensitivity or are pregnant and/or breastfeeding.

Decaf? Think Again!

Decaf coffee often gets a bad rap as a "lesser" brew because of its perceived lack of caffeine. But don’t be fooled! While "decaf" stands for "decaffeinated," it doesn't mean it's completely caffeine-free. Decaf coffee is crafted by steaming unroasted beans and then rinsing them with a solvent to remove most of the caffeine. However, these beans still retain about 1% of their original caffeine content (approximately 7 milligrams per 12 ounces).

While this small amount of caffeine might not jolt you awake like a regular cup, it still offers a gentle kick. And here's the magic part—because decaf and regular coffee are so similar, except for caffeine levels, their mystical properties are identical. So feel free to swap in decaf for nearly all the recipes and spells in this book.

However, due to its lower caffeine content, decaf isn't ideal for spells and potions requiring speed and high energy. Instead, it’s perfect for grounding, protection, and bringing things to a close. So next time you think decaf is just a watered-down version of coffee, remember it has its own unique charm and purpose.

Magical Properties of Coffee Roasts

As mentioned in the first chapter, coffee beans are roasted to develop their flavor—different roasting levels provide distinct flavors and caffeine levels. For everyday coffee, you need to focus on three main roasts: light, medium, and dark. Each roast carries unique magical properties:

Light Roast

Light roast coffee is roasted for the least amount of time, preserving the beans' original flavor. The higher the quality of the coffee, the lighter the roast. This roast makes a thinner, milder cup of coffee with fruity notes. While the flavor is more delicate, it is more acidic and contains more caffeine. Best prepared using a pour-over method.

Types of Light Roast: Cinnamon, Half-city, New England, Light City, White Coffee.

Magical Properties: Energy, clarity, patience, motivation, friendship, honesty, impartiality, abundance, healing.

Medium Roast

Medium roast is the most popular coffee roast, known for its versatility—you can add almost anything to it. These beans roast longer than light roast beans, bringing out more flavor. Medium roast coffee is less acidic, providing a balanced brew with a nutty, chocolaty taste. Suitable for drip brew, French press, cold brew, air over, moka pot, and espresso.

Types of Medium Roast: Full City, Breakfast Blend, Regular Roast, American.

Magical Properties: Balance, flexibility, adaptation, prosperity, strength, creativity, reliability, grounding, determination.

Dark Roast

Dark roast coffee, the "dark side" of coffee, is roasted until the sugars caramelize and oils surface. Often referred to as "burnt" coffee due to the prolonged roasting time and use of lower quality beans, it has a strong, smoky, sometimes bitter flavor. Dark roast has less caffeine but is popular in lattes, cappuccinos, and mochaccinos, as milk softens its bold taste. Best brewed in an espresso machine or a moka pot.

Types of Dark Roast: French, Viennese, Italian, High Roast, European, Spanish, New Orleans, Neapolitan.
